Things I Wish I Had Known When I Started Traveling Abroad and Taking Photos

  •  Always take more than 1 camera.

  • If your camera malfunctions overseas you have to wait until returning home to get it repaired even if the manufacturer is in the same city you’re in

  • Travel Light, fewer shoes and clothes.

  • Dress in layers.

  • Do not take travelers checks because they are too costly to exchange for the foreign currency needed.

  • The best money exchange is through the foreign banks.

  • Get a bit of foreign money from your bank before traveling.

  • Reasonably priced European hotel rooms are much smaller than those in the U.S.

  • Jeans are worn in almost every country so no need to worry about dressing upscale.

  • Be sure to pack vitamins and/or medication in an easily accessible place.

  • In the event of flight delays have a toothbrush/paste/underwear change in the  carryon bag.

  • Use a bank card of an account that is only for your travel money so there is no issue if your account is attacked..  Your other money will be in a separate account.

  • Let credit card holder of the card you’ll use know you’ll be out the country using your card.

  • 800 phone numbers are not accessible outside of the the U.S., therefor get a number you can use to contact the the bank and or credit card holder/s while you’re out of the country.

  • Make copies of your passport and leave a copy with a trusted person in the States and have a copy with you in the event your passport is lost/stolen/misplaced.
